STORY – The ex-sovereign with a reputation tainted by corruption cases will escape Wednesday from his exile in the United Arab Emirates.

He obviously didn’t learn the lesson; or else, he doesn’t care. A year after his controversial visit to Spain, Juan Carlos Iis , the king who abdicated the crown in favor of his son Felipe in 2014, is once again escaping from exile in Abu Dhabi. This Wednesday, he will return, for the second consecutive year, to participate in a regatta in Sanxenxo, a bourgeois seaside resort in Galicia (north-west of the country). And thereby, defying his old age (85), his limited mobility, and, without knowing whether the effect is feared or sought, fueling distrust and controversy.
Podemos, the radical left party which participates in the government presided over by socialist Pedro Sanchez, has called the visit a“democratic indecency”indignant that Juan Carlos “has not accounted for his misdeeds before a judicial authority”.
