The empty promises of the Assembly

The newly elected members of the National Assembly have made attractive offers: give governability to the new government, support initiatives in favor of security, support projects in favor of the people, reject new taxes, approve the law of forfeiture of domain, reform the penal code to punish extortion of businesses and other offers. Some are generalities, others are specific offers, but they will accomplish nothing.

Individual offers must be qualified by the parties that will do so based on political convenience and relations with the government. The new Assembly will be affected, almost immediately, by the start of the electoral campaign for 2025.

What makes the proper functioning of the National Assembly impossible is the crisis of representativeness, a disease of democracy that is in serious condition in our country. Why don’t the assembly members represent us if we have chosen them at the polls?

Citizens do not trust parties that do not practice democracy, do not have militancy, do not generate leaders and do not study the national reality. The obligatory vote for candidates chosen by those parties has broken the nexus of the voters with their representatives.

The citizen cannot see the difference between so many political parties and organizations contaminated by corruption and lies that have their maximum expression in the proclamation of rights that do not exist for everyone. Employment, health, education, free mobility, are rights enshrined in generous laws, but they do not reach the people who have no one to complain to.

The new Assembly will have almost the same composition as the previous one, the same problems and, to a large extent, the same figures. The promises of the Assembly will be empty as long as we do not have institutionality. The spectacle offered by the judges, the Judicial Council and the Citizen Participation Council is depressing. The disappointed citizen remains silent, for the moment.
