Janneke and Brix die in a “criminal act” just before they finally get close to each other. The two researchers are not alone with this fate.

Frankfurter”Crime Scene: It’s green when the hills of Frankfurt are illuminated” (September 29th, first) is not only a show about a psychiatrist on the verge of a nervous breakdown and a gang leader, but above all also a farewell to the investigators Anna Janneke and Paul Brix At the beginning of 2023, Margarita Broich (64) and Wolfram Koch (62) announced that they will say goodbye to the Sunday crime thriller after their 19th case is even more exciting.

And that’s what it was all about: Janneke and Brix were able to solve the case and come away largely unscathed. At the last moment, the red light district took revenge and gave two inspectors with a car bomb. After ten years, they are on their way to their first date. But no, Zazie de Paris sings one last chanson as Fanny and after ten years in “Tatort” the two investigators go down in the fire.

An ending “like Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart”

A surprising ending for a duo that delighted “Tatort” fans with unconventional investigative methods and often leads to an anomaly in the forest of Frankfurt. “We’re dancing here like Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart,” Brix Janneke explained before they left the bar for the last time.

This refers to the actors Bacall (1924-2014) and Bogart (1899-1957), who shaped the gangster stories of “Film Noir” in the 1940s and were also a dream couple in their private lives. “Janneke and Brix are one of the best ‘Tatort’ duos immediately into a big city atmosphere. Peaceful explorers with a touch of noir,” screenwriter Michael Proehl (48) explains this praise in the recording publication.

Death always comes before great love

Even if Janneke and Brix had wanted to leave the “crime scene” a little less, it could have affected them worse. After all, his serial death was connected to the case and they were dating, something Julia Grosz aka Franziska Weisz (44) could only dream of.

After the Hamburg inspector essentially stopped the investigation at all and only played a supporting role in his last film “What’s left”, which was broadcast on New Year’s Day 2024, he was randomly stabbed by an unknown person on the road in the end. “It’s not honorable,” was the verdict of most fans. But there is a similarity with his Frankfurt colleagues: Just before his death, Grosz finally had all the signs that pointed to a partnership with his colleague Falke (Wotan Wilke Möhring, 57).

Nina Rubin (Meret Becker, 55) suffered the same fate, but it was better realized thanks to a spectacular show at the airport. The Berlin commissioner died in the 2022 episode “The Girl Who Walked Home Alone”, also at the hands of his colleague Robert Karow (Mark Waschke, 52). The two researchers are also close in private.

We have known Becker’s farewell since 2019, but the death of Dortmund figure Martina Bönisch (Anna Schudt, 50) is completely different. He died without prior notice in the episode “Love Me” (2022) of a gunshot wound – his colleague Peter Faber (Jörg Hartmann, 55) was able to confess his love to him. In the events leading up to their departure, the two visitors become closer and closer, and there is even a kiss. But the audience is not given this happy ending either.

The end of the Dortmund investigator Jan Pawlak (Rick Okon, 35) shows that things can be different. He is alive in the case of his last “crime show” “Cash” (2024) and drives to Seville with his great love, namely his daughter, to start a new life.

More shocking deaths?

“Tatort” fans did not have much time to recover from the shocking deaths of Anna Janneke and Paul Brix. Many farewells are announced in the future. The last case with the Franconian investigator Paula Ringelhahn (Dagmar Manzel, 66) is already running on October 6th, “Tatort: Still”. Are we going to get rid of it again with a big bang?

In 2025, veterans Miroslav Nemec (70) and Udo Wachtveitl (65), who have investigated as Batic and Leitmayr in Munich for 35 years, will resign after 100 cases. In interviews, the two commissioners are and understand that easy retirement is not an option for them. But it shouldn’t be a surprise death either, because both will play the role “who wants to live.”

Axel Milberg (68) will also retire in 2025. In the description of his last case “Borowski and the Head of Medusa” there are hints that his character Inspector Borowski may go on a world tour – a little less bloody …
