/ The English Football Association accused Manchester City of failing to control its players during the 3-3 draw with Tottenham Hotspur yesterday, Sunday, in the English Premier League.
A number of City players surrounded referee Simon Hooper near the end of the match after he stopped play while Jack Grealish was running towards the goal due to a foul on Erling Haaland during the build-up of the attack, after he had previously waved the play to continue.
The English Association said in a statement issued on Monday: “We have charged Manchester City with violating the rules after its players surrounded the referee during a Premier League match against Tottenham.
“In the 94th minute, the club apparently failed to control its players to behave in an inappropriate manner.”
Man City has until Thursday to respond to the accusation.
Coach Pep Guardiola’s team fell to third place in the standings after this draw, three points behind leaders Arsenal, and will visit Aston Villa in the next match, the day after tomorrow, Wednesday.
Haaland faces possible disciplinary measures after criticizing the referee on social media after the match.
Haaland was one of the City players objecting to the referee’s decision, and he continued his protests after the match, by publishing a video clip of the events on the X website (formerly Twitter) with a 3-letter comment, symbolizing an offensive slang expression (What the hell is this?).
His Spanish coach, Pep Guardiola, was not aware of the post when he spoke to reporters after the match, but commenting on Haaland’s reaction on the field, he understood what the league’s top scorer had done, saying: “This is normal. His reaction was similar to the other ten players.” .
