The European Parliament elected this evening with two secret votes the new 14 vice-presidents of the institution, announced Roberta Mezzola, who was re-elected earlier today as head of the EP.

In the first vote, Zabine Ferheyen (EPP, Germany), Ewa Kopacz (EPP, Poland), Esteban González Pons (EPP, Spain), Catarina Barli (Socialists and Democrats, Germany), Pina Picerno (SiD, Italy), Victor Negrescu were elected (S.D., Romania), Martin Hoisic (“Renew Europe”, Slovakia), Krystel Schildemose (S.D., Denmark), Javi Lopez (S.D., Spain), Sophie Wilmes (“Renew Europe”, Belgium), Nicolae Stefanuzza (Greens, Romania ).

In the second vote, the remaining three candidates were elected – Roberts Zille (ECR, Latvia), Antonella Sberna (ECR, Italy) and Yunus Omarji (Left, France).

701 MEPs took part in the first secret ballot, and 674 in the second, Metzola noted. She specified that applications for the new EP quaestors are expected by later this evening. The vote is scheduled for tomorrow, along with the distribution of MEPs in the new parliamentary committees.

On Thursday, the EP will vote on the proposal of the European Council for the re-election of Ursula von der Leyen as the head of the European Commission for the next five years.
