The short film program of the Haapsalu Horror and Science Fiction Film Festival “Little Nightmares” will present the film “Katy and Jeb” by Johannes Magnus Aule to the Estonian audience for the first time.

This is an English-language student film made last year in London, at the famous English National Film and Television School, where the author received his master’s degree in February of this year.
Ellie, a retired widow, has resigned herself to spending the last years of her life in a nursing home. But everything changes when she is kidnapped by two psychopathic serial killers.
“This film is dedicated to all those who need to be awakened and shaken up to start living again,” the director says of his 17-minute crime comedy.

Johannes Magnus Aule graduated from the Baltic Film, Media, Arts and Communication Institute of Tallinn University with a degree in cinematography. His student film “Rave” has participated in almost 20 international festivals and has also been selected to compete in the Georges Méliès Short Film Competition at HÕFF 2020.

Aule is currently working in London, where he is preparing his first feature film.

Total in the program “Little Nightmares” Eight films selected from 238 short films submitted to the festival will be screened. The selection also includes “Voices” by British director Abby Lucas, “How to Create a Ghost” by American director Jared Hogan, “Amy and Me” by Dutch director Bastian Rook, “The Demon’s Box” by Canadian director Sean Weinsteim, “Ferrari” by French director Boris Biau, ” Inkar by Kazakh director Raiymbek Alzhanov and Suruayk by Romanian director Vlad Ilichevich.

In addition, Haapsalu will host a traditional Georges Méliès European Short Film Competitionthe winner of which will receive a silver award named after Georges Méliès and the right to claim the title of the best science fiction film in Europe.

The prestigious competition, named after the legendary French illusionist Georges Méliès, is organized by the Federation of European Fantastic Film Festivals., of which the HÕFF has been a member for the eleventh year.
19 films will take part in the European Fantastic Film Competition. The best fantasy film in Europe, awarded the Georges Méliès Gold Award, will be announced at the Sitges Film Festival later this year.

The Haapsalu Horror and Science Fiction Film Festival will take place April 28-30. Tickets and season tickets are on sale now.
