Representatives of the countries of the European Union have approved a change in European legislation related to the limitation of carbon dioxide emissions emitted by the movement of trucks and other large vehicles. This was announced by official representatives quoted by DPA.

The average amount of carbon dioxide to be limited by 45 percent by 2030, by 65 percent by 2035 and by 90 percent by 2040 compared to the levels reported in 2019. This is foreseen by the legislative changes related to environmental pollution in EU countries by large vehicles.

Currently, the CO2 emission limits apply to heavy-duty trucks. It is proposed that they also apply to buses from urban and intercity transport, as well as to trucks with trailers.

The change envisages a 90 percent reduction in carbon dioxide emissions emitted by city buses by 2035. By 2040, these buses must completely stop polluting the atmosphere with this harmful gas, BTA reported.

This means that EU countries will have to equip public transport in their cities entirely with buses that do not have internal combustion engines.

The new rules must be voted on by the European Parliament. To enter into force, however, they must be approved by the individual countries in the European Union.
