Member of the European Parliament (EP) from the Czech Republic Tomas Zdekhovsky called for compensation to European farmers for losses caused by increased supplies from Ukraine. The MEP made an appeal to cover the expenses of European Union (EU) farmers in his appeal to the European Commission (EC), the text of which was reviewed by Lenta.ru, Day.Az reports.

“The European Commission proposes to extend the duty-free trade regime with Ukraine (…) for another year until June 2025. Support for Ukraine should continue and remain a common goal of all EU member states. However, duty-free import of Ukrainian agricultural products causes a surplus of goods in the EU, in including in the Czech Republic,” writes a member of the EP in his letter.

In this regard, he calls on the EC to answer the question of the possibility of compensating the costs incurred by European farmers.

“Does the Commission plan to propose specific measures to offset the negative impacts of duty-free trade with Ukraine on crop farmers? When will the Commission propose such measures, in particular to protect European crop farmers, and what will these measures look like?” – he asked EK.
