The European Court of General Jurisdiction upheld the claims of businessmen Pyotr Aven and Mikhail Fridman against the EU Council for the lifting of EU sanctions against them; the court’s decision on the claims was read by court representative Fernando Pessoa. These decisions relate only to the period from February 2022 to March 2023 and do not mean the automatic exclusion of entrepreneurs from the EU blacklist – this requires a separate decision of the EU Council, Day.Az reports with reference to TASS.

“The EU Court decided to satisfy Petr Aven’s claim against the EU Council and cancel personal sanctions against him. The EU Council must pay legal costs [стороны]”, says the court ruling in the Aven case.

“The EU Court decided to satisfy Mikhail Fridman’s claim against the EU Council and cancel personal sanctions against him. The EU Council must pay legal costs [стороны]”, says the ruling in the Friedman case.

These decisions can be appealed by the EU Council. These claims were filed with the Court of Justice of the European Union on 22 and 23 May 2022, respectively.
