The EU has introduced new personal sanctions against Russian politicians and businessmen

The European Union has introduced new personal sanctions against Russian businessmen, politicians, top managers of state-owned companies, as well as TV presenters of Russian state television channels. A complete list of those affected by the sanctions is published in the official journal of the European Union.

The sanctions affected, in particular, the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko, head of the Ministry of Construction Irek Fayzullin, Minister of Transport Dmitry Savelyev and Deputy Secretary of the General Council of the United Russia party Andrey Turchak.

Among businessmen, the co-owners of Alfa-Bank and the LetterOne holding Mikhail Fridman and Petr Aven, the main owner of Severgroup Alexei Mordashov, the head of Transneft Nikolai Tokarev, the chief executive officer of Rosneft Igor Sechin, the main owner of the USM holding Alisher Usmanov were sanctioned and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sheremetyevo International Airport Alexander Ponomarenko. In addition, the sanctions affected the head of Promsvyazbank Pyotr Fradkov, businessman Gennady Timchenko and others.

Also under the sanctions were TV presenters of political programs on Russian TV channels – Olga Skabeeva, Tigran Keosayan, editor-in-chief of Regnum publication Modest Kolerov, Moscow City Duma deputy and TV presenter Roman Babayan, writer and State Duma deputy Zakhar Prilepin, journalists of state TV channels Anton Krasovsky, Arkady Mamontov and others.

The only company on the EU sanctions list today is the Sogaz group. The EU explained that the sanctions were imposed for insurance by the company regarding the construction of the Kerch bridge in Crimea.

The decision came into force from the moment of publication.
