The European Union is conducting checks on AliExpress, TikTok and seven other major online services as part of the Digital Service Act (DSA), aimed at monitoring the activities of digital platforms.

As Day.Az reports with reference to TASS, sources told Agence France-Presse about this.

According to the agency, the online trading platform AliExpress is suspected of failing to fulfill obligations to combat the sale of hazardous goods, in particular counterfeit medicines. The European Commission sent a request to the company for detailed information in early November 2023. According to the source, based on its results, a formal procedure is now being carried out within the DSA in order to protect consumer rights.

The investigation is being conducted against eight online services, including TikTok, Facebook, Google, YouTube and X. According to him, this is due to the fact that they cannot control the spread of deepfake technology. Platforms will only receive a request for details of their activities, but will be required to pay large fines in case of violations.

From August 25, within the framework of the DSA, the European Union decided to strengthen control over the activities of 19 online platforms, which, according to officials, fall into the category of “particularly large ones.” Now these include services X, TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Google and Amazon Store.
