European parliamentarian from Sweden Helene Fritsson has proposed a new way to limit the supply of Russian oil and gas to the European Union, circumventing sanctions. She appealed to the European Commission with a proposal to label the origin of all energy resources in order to prevent supplies from Russia.
As Day.Az reports, Lenta.ru writes about this.
According to Fritszon, EU sanctions against Russia are still being circumvented, and oil and gas continue to flow into Europe, despite the bans. She stressed the importance of establishing a labeling system for all fossil fuels imported into the EU, so that the origin of oil and gas can be traced and attempts to import from Russia can be stopped.
Fritzzon recalled that a similar proposal to label products using fossil resources was submitted to the EC for consideration back in 2011, but after negotiations the initiative was rejected.
