The European Union has approved the sending of a civilian mission to the Republic of Moldova, in order to strengthen the capabilities of this country to counter Russian attempts to destabilize, informs the daily newspaper Le Figaro.
The Republic of Moldova has repeatedly accused Russia of trying to remove the pro-European Administration from Chisinau, which Moscow has denied.
“As the Republic of Moldova is one of the countries most affected by the effects of Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine, we are witnessing an intensification of Russian attempts to destabilize the Republic of Moldova through hybrid actions,” said Josep Borrell Fontelles, EU High Representative for Business Foreign and Security Policies.
“The sending of this new mission is another important political signal about the support offered by the EU in the current difficult circumstances”, stressed Borrell.
The EU mission will consist of approximately 40 experts, and will arrive in the Republic of Moldova in May, and the activities will last for two years. The EU mission will benefit from funding of 40 million euros, through the European Instrument for Peace.
