The delegation of MEPs that for three days has analyzed linguistic immersion in two Catalan schools has missed data from the Government on students who have 25% of their education in Spanish and whether the alleged exclusion of this language affects the result of the PISA report .

A dozen MEPs, including six Spaniards as companions, have analyzed the linguistic immersion model in Catalan schools since Monday and until this Wednesday, at the request of PP, VOX and CS, which filed a lawsuit before the European Parliament of the Association for a Bilingual School (AEB).

The president of the delegation, the Estonian liberal Yana Toom, indicated in a press conference that there is still “no position” because the organization must still prepare a report in the coming months, in order to corroborate whether the ” exclusion” of Spanish denounced by those who requested this mission, contrary to linguistic immersion.

To do this, Toom has said that they are going to require more information from the Generalitat and, in this sense, he has described it as “strange” that the administration has not provided him with data on how many and what the situation is of the students who do attend a 25% of teaching in Spanish, after the court rulings.

Furthermore, he denounced that when they spoke with school directors there were representatives from the Department of Education, so there could not be “a free exchange of opinions,” he added.

Asked if she believes that the Generalitat has put “obstacles” to the mission, the MEP responded: “They have made it more interesting, but there are places on the planet where it is even more difficult.”

Toom has indicated that the performance results of Catalan students in the Pisa report are “sad” but that, given this, they have had two versions: that linguistic immersion does not work well for children and that this is explained by socioeconomic issues. , non-idiomatic.

“We have listened to representatives of all parties with contradictory arguments and now we will have to elevate it to a report that has broad agreement on its content,” Toom said.
