The European Union intends to finance the supply of lethal weapons and other equipment to the Ukrainian armed forces, the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen called it a turning point
The European Union intends to provide Ukraine with lethal weapons, including combat aircraft. This was stated by the head of European diplomacy Josep Borrell, his speech published on Twitter of the European External Action Service.
According to him, EU member states have agreed to send €450 million worth of lethal weapons to Ukraine and will allocate another €50 million for non-lethal assistance, fuel and protective equipment.
Earlier, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said that the EU would finance the purchase and supply of weapons and other equipment for Ukraine, specifying that the European Union was taking such a step for the first time. “This is a turning point,” she said.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in Ukraine with the aim of “demilitarization and denazification.” The authorities assured that there was no talk of occupation of the country, the Ministry of Defense stated that they were only attacking military facilities, nothing threatened the civilian population. Kyiv considered Moscow’s actions to be the outbreak of war and severed diplomatic relations with it, martial law is in effect in the country, and general mobilization has been announced.
Hungary refused to supply weapons to Ukraine
