The cost of aviation kerosene at the St. Petersburg International Commodity Exchange, following the results of trading on Monday, January 17, set a new record, according to data from the site.

Thus, the price of aviation kerosene according to the index of the European part of Russia increased by 4.61%, to 60,876 rubles. per ton. The previous record was set last Thursday, January 13 – 59,120 rubles per ton.

Prices for off-season and summer diesel fuel also updated record levels. Thus, off-season diesel increased in price by 1.1%, to 55,968 rubles. per ton, summer diesel – by 0.1%, up to 54,178 rubles / t. The cost of winter diesel fell to 64,469 rubles/t (-1.1%). Exchange prices for aviation kerosene are rising against the backdrop of rising oil prices. In September last year, for the first time in two years, airlines were able to claim payments from the budget under the damper mechanism, but they considered the payments insufficient to cover losses.

Last year, the Association of Air Transport Operators (which unites the largest Russian airlines) first proposed lowering the price cut-off level for jet fuel from 53,250 to 39,305 rubles/t, and then fixing last year’s cut-off threshold in the damper until the end of 2024. Airlines also proposed 2022, increase the coefficient for excise deduction from 2.08 to 3.5, which would increase the subsidy from 3,000 to 7,000 rubles/t. In January, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said that the government considers the measures already taken to compensate for the increase in the cost of kerosene to be sufficient.
