The first phase of the project consists of the extension of the railway infrastructures, from the superstructure, to the electrification and security and communications facilities. An intermodal terminal will be built, made up of a new logistics bundle with four tracks of 750 meters in length and mixed width, intended for container loading and unloading operations, and another four locomotive parking tracks.

The works, which will be carried out by Coalvi, also include the slabs for the storage of containers, the rolling paths for the gantry cranes, a management building, a waiting area for trucks and parking for light vehicles and associated facilities, such as enclosures , lighting, sanitation, drainage and electricity supply.

Facilities with an international dimension

Likewise, a new urbanization of roads and accesses to the terminal will be carried out to connect the different functional areas to the external road network, as well as facilities associated with the urbanization works. The total action has an investment of 50 million euros charged to the European recovery funds Next Generation EU, and is framed in the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan

The Valencia-Fuente de San Luis intermodal and logistics terminal has a marked international dimension. Located in the Mediterranean Corridor, next to the Port of Valencia, it forms part of the Trans-European Transport Network and constitutes a key strategic node in the interconnection, interoperability and intermodality of transport services, which will enable the movement of standard gauge trains between Valencia and the French border. The center is also linked to the development of the Logistics Activities Zone of the Port of Valencia and Mercavalencia.

The expansion and remodeling is part of the agreement signed by the Ministry of Development, the Valencian Generalitat, the Valencia City Council, Adif, Puertos del Estado and the Valencia Port Authority, in 2019, for the development of the terminal, with the objective to turn it into a peninsular strategic node in the distribution of goods.

The action is included in the Ministry’s 2030 Safe, Sustainable and Connected Mobility Strategy, aimed at effectively increasing rail freight transport by promoting strategic intermodal nodes located on priority freight axes.
