Fraudsters have started selling fake QR codes on the darknet to visit cafes and restaurants in Moscow, on average they cost 11 thousand rubles, RIA Novosti reported with reference to Evgeny Voloshin, director of BI.ZONE expert services.

From June 28 in Moscow, you need a QR code to visit public catering. It is issued to people who have been vaccinated against coronavirus, have had it less than six months ago, or have received a negative PCR test.

“BI.ZONE specialists found at least ten advertisements for the sale of QR-passes on the shadow forums. These announcements were published back in May. Initially, they contained information about the purchase of fake vaccination certificates and their entry into the State Services database, ”Voloshin said. According to him, after the introduction of QR codes, the scammers edited the ads and added information that the buyer would be able to generate the real code.

According to the company, ads for the sale of QR codes appeared last weekend. At least 50 positive reviews from buyers of codes appeared on the forums. Voloshin suggested that applications for generating fake QR codes may soon appear. However, applications for detecting fake images will also be developed. “The system has just been launched, and for now, QR codes will be checked manually. Apparently, the employees of the establishment will check the code using a regular smartphone camera, and with a high flow of customers, they can easily overlook that the code leads to a malicious resource, ”Voloshin said.

The requirement to enter restaurants and cafes using QR codes came into force on 28 June. The code can be obtained by someone who either completed the full course of vaccination against COVID-19, or had a coronavirus within six months before visiting the restaurant, or received a negative PCR test result no later than three days before. Until July 12, without a QR code, you can visit the summer verandas and outdoor terraces of establishments.
