Pension expert Sergei Zvenigorodsky told Sputnik radio that Russians who have lost their spouses have the right to receive their pensions.

According to him, first of all, the size of pension payments depends on the length of service. A family member cannot inherit the insurance pension that the deceased person earned. However, there is one caveat.

“The insurance pension cannot be inherited, but it is important to understand that the data on its size will be saved,” the expert said.

Zvenigorodsky clarified that the Pension Fund of Russia will store data on the amount of payments, even if the person died before he could retire.

“In the event that the second spouse retires, he can apply to the FIU and request data on the amount of the accumulated insurance pension of the deceased spouse,” he added.

If the pension of the second spouse turns out to be higher than that which is accrued to a member of his family, then it makes sense to write an application for transferring to a pension, the amount of which is higher.

“I would like to note that in this case the pension will not be one hundred percent, which should have been with the second spouse, in only 75%,” Zvenigorodsky summed up.
