The national team coach, Jesus Casas, confirmed that the expulsion decision against player Rebin Sulaka was harsh, while he indicated that the national team deserved better in its match against Kuwait.
“The match was technically restricted for us from the beginning due to a refereeing decision that I considered harsh after referring to the VAR technology, and after that we at least deserved to come out with a better result, and we had more than one opportunity to score, and in general, getting one point is better than coming out with a loss,” Casas said in a press conference held after the end of the Iraq-Kuwait match on Tuesday evening, which ended in a goalless draw in the second round of the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, which was followed by the (INA).
He added: “The Kuwait team played well, and they had some attempts, but they did not pose a great threat to our goal. We could have achieved victory, even though we were suffering from a numerical shortage, and we played most of the match with ten players. If we had completed the match with a full team, we could have come out with a victory result.”
Regarding the start of the Iraqi League matches soon, Casas explained: “I certainly hope that all players will participate and enter the rhythm of the competitions, and that they will play matches continuously, and that we will not be exposed to the same problem next year.”
