The C-4B Cercanías line ends in Colmenar Viejo and an existing line, Madrid-Burgos, departs from there, passing through Aranda de Duero, which connects with Soto del Real and which is now going to be recovered for commuter services. The consortium formed by Coalvi and Construcciones, Instalaciones y Tracción, will carry out the works.
The platform, whose width varies between 9.5 and 12.5 metres, will be extended to thirteen meters so that in the future it can house double track if demand makes it necessary. The works, on the right bank so as not to affect protected areas of the Cuenca Alta del Manzanares, include the expansion of embankments, clearings and various measures to support the infrastructure. In addition, the current track will be raised and a new superstructure will be assembled, extending a new bed of ballast, placing the sleepers and laying the new rail.
Electrification of the section
The new section will also be electrified. The project includes actions at the Soto Sur station, such as the expansion and modification of the platforms, the connection between the two through an underpass and the modification of the rail yard. Among other actions, new railway facilities will be placed, overpasses will be adapted, new wildlife crossings will be enabled and longitudinal and transversal drainages will be improved. Likewise, the closing of the line will be executed in the surroundings of the Colmenar Viejo station and in the rest of the layout. The livestock route ‘Cordel de la carretera de Miraflores’ will also be restored; To do this, a new road will be built, with an overpass over the access branch to Sotoferro and the M-862 road included.
Along with the 21.8 million euros allocated to these works, Adif has already mobilized another 25.1 million in this extension. Thus, it has awarded supplies to carry out the work (sleepers, ballast, track devices) and has tendered the signaling of the new section between Colmenar and Soto. An action that includes the drafting of the project, its execution, the tests and the commissioning of the security installations.
New station in Soto del Real
Adif will build a new passenger building at the Soto del Real station to serve future users of the C-4 Cercanías line.
Specifically, it has tendered, for the amount of 587,073.8 euros, the contract to draw up the project for the new station, which will include a car park with space for the new ‘last mile’ modes of sustainable transport. This is the document that will detail all the actions necessary to build both endowments and the previous step to tender the works.
The new building will be built from a project that will identify both the synergies and compatibility with the current building, as well as the integration of the whole from the architectural point of view and in its urban environment.
The new station joins others that Adif is currently promoting in Parla, Pinto or Tres Cantos, or the remodeling that is being carried out in Alcalá de Henares, and other outstanding actions underway to optimize and reform the Madrid suburban network . These include the doubling of the section between Pinar de Las Rozas and Las Matas, the renewal of the signs for the north and northeast lines or the work being undertaken in Chamartín-Clara Campoamor to consolidate the station as a strategic node for Cercanías Madrid.
