Builders begin interior decoration of the new building of the State Tretyakov Gallery
Six months ago, there were doubts that the museum’s long-term construction on Kadashevskaya Embankment would be ready in 2024. However, now Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Marat Khusnullin said that the new building of the Tretyakov Gallery will be opened to the public next year. “MK” made sure that the facade is ready.
The red-brick building with picture-framed windows already looks quite finished. On the side facing the embankment, famous works of Russian classics, from Shishkin to Malevich, are viewed from the framed windows. It can be seen that there are many workers behind the fence, machinery scurrying back and forth. The barrier at the entrance now and then opens to start another car with building materials. Work is in full swing.
Recall that the construction of a new building next to the historical one in Lavrushinsky Lane was planned to begin in 2007, but was constantly postponed. The concept of the building has changed many times. In 2012, there was a second competition, and it seemed that they would build something now, but it was not the last one.
In addition, in 2011, it turned out at the start of the project that in 2008, 87 million rubles were stolen from the budget allocated for construction. Oleg Belikov, who in 2008 worked in the directorate of the Western Administrative District, and later took the post of first deputy general director of the Tretyakov Gallery, was found guilty of embezzlement and sentenced to 5 years in prison.
In 2020, a budget was again allocated for long-term construction – 2.4 billion rubles. The case has moved to a standstill. During the construction, three directors managed to change, and the resignation of each of them was partly associated with this project. But it looks like it will be completed by next year.
“The new building of the Tretyakov Gallery is one of the iconic objects, which, for a number of reasons, has turned into a long-term construction. As of today, interior finishing work has already begun. Currently, in the exhibition halls of the building, builders are assembling subsystems for installing hinged panels. Specialists paint and putty walls, frame doorways with white stone and lay flooring in the administrative part of the building. It is planned to complete all construction work and open a new museum complex for visitors in 2024,” said Marat Khusnullin, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation.
The new building will be connected to the historical building of the Tretyakov Gallery by a 57-meter glass walkway. At the moment, the builders have poured the foundations of the supports of the future bridge, the main work is ahead. The transition is planned to be equipped with modern lighting, ventilation, air conditioning, heating and fire extinguishing systems. First of all, the glass bridge will be designed to transport exhibits and museum equipment, because the new building will house, in addition to exhibition halls, restoration workshops. However, visitors will also be able to use the passage.
