The Moscow authorities have extended the experiment with payment of fares by Face Pay to all metro lines, according to the Telegram channel of the Moscow Department of Transport.
“14 lines and 241 metro stations are connected to the Face Pay service. Moscow became the first city in the world to use facial recognition for fare payments on such a scale. Today the final stage of testing has begun, according to the results of which we will be ready to launch an innovative service for all metro passengers, ”said the head of the department, Maxim Liksutov.
To take part in the Face Pay test, you need to download the Moscow Metro application, link a bank card or Troika to it, and upload a photo of your face. FacePay works as follows: a person takes a photo and enters it into a special application, where he also binds a bank card or Troika. As a result, when passing through the turnstile, a person looks at the camera, the system finds his picture, matches it with his face and lets it pass. The money is debited from the card automatically.
Payment for travel using face recognition is planned to be launched at the MCC, MCD and ground transport. It is also planned to make a discount on travel for passengers who use this payment method. With this system, you can go through turnstiles where there is a round black sticker on the floor. Discounts are available on the Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya and Nekrasovskaya lines in the early hours.
