A batch of 100% vegetable pesto produced by Biffi was withdrawn from supermarkets following a recall from the Ministry of Health. The problem lies in the fact that the pesto in question may contain undeclared allergens: in particular there may be milk inside, which was not included on the label. The European regulation in force since 13 December 2014 has established the obligation for producers and commercial establishments to report the presence of substances in foods that can cause allergies or intolerances.

Consequently, due to the lack contained in the label, the 100% vegetable pesto produced by Biffi was recalled: the batch affected by the recall by the Ministry of Health is L30PL3F, produced in the factory in Via Piacenza 20, 26865 San Rocco al Porto (LO) , expiring January 24, 2014. Specifically, these are the 150 gram trays. If pesto belonging to the batch affected by the return was purchased, it is possible to return it to the point of sale and replace it with another product or request a refund. It should be underlined that there is no danger for those who are not allergic to milk or do not have lactose intolerance: this means that it is possible to consume the product without risks even if it has been reported.

Lactose intolerance is one of the most common and causes gas production and fluid recall in the colon. The most common symptoms of intolerance tend to appear 30 to 120 minutes after a meal containing lactose: they can be bloating and/or abdominal pain, flatulence, diarrhea. Furthermore, constipation, meteorism and more rarely headaches, exhaustion and skin rashes could also occur.
