Special pujas are held at the Mahamariamman Temple.
The famous Mahamariamman Temple is located in the village of Needamangalam in the Thiruvarur district. The annual Chithrai festival is held at this temple. Similarly, special pujas were held for the Goddess on the eve of this year’s Chithirai festival. In this situation, a large number of fasting devotees from different parts of the state came to the temple carrying milk jugs through the main streets of the city.
This was followed by the anointing of the Goddess with a variety of items including milk, curd, young water, tea, rose water and sandalwood and the Diwali was held. Also a street walk was held in special attire for the goddess. The festival is attended by a large number of devotees from different parts of the country who are adorned with flowers and pay homage to the Goddess.
