The shooting of an angry father-in-law’s daughter-in-law in Maharashtra, India, for not serving breakfast with tea has caused a stir.

Police say the daughter-in-law was injured when her father-in-law shot her with a revolver in the incident which took place at their home in Thane, Maharashtra.

The 42-year-old woman suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen and was being treated at a city hospital, they said.

Inspector Santosh Kattekar said the accused Kashinath Bandurang Patil (76) has been booked under sections 307 (attempted murder) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and an offense under the Arms Act. The accused has not yet been arrested.

Citing a complaint from another daughter-in-law of the accused, the officer said the incident took place around 11:30 a.m. Thursday.

The family of the injured woman took her to a nearby hospital for treatment and admitted her.

Police are investigating whether there was any other motive for the attack.
