An inflatable structure blew up while a father and his daughter were playing in it on Sunday. The adult died a few hours later, announced the mayor of Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume.

A 35-year-old man and his three-and-a-half-year-old daughter were victims of a serious accident on Sunday July 30 in the Wonderland park in Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume, in the Var. An inflatable structure in which they were playing flew away before falling 50 meters further. In the evening, Alain Decanis, the mayor, announced on his Facebook page that the father had not survived his injuries.
“The firefighters and other rescuers arrived very quickly on the scene, but the situation was already critical when the two victims were airlifted to Marseille hospitals”, continues the city councilor, who immediately went to the scene.
An open investigation
Called Wonderland Waterpark, the establishment opened this summer according to its website. “How could a water park that had been accepted on the municipal territory to bring joy and happiness to children turn into a machine of death that struck down an entire family? asked Alain Decanis, before informing that an investigation was underway.
The latter, who had refused to communicate earlier “out of decency vis-à-vis the victims”, presented ” [ses] sincere condolences to the mother present on the scene, who showed remarkable courage, as well as to all the members of the family”.
The Var department had been placed on forest fire red alert due to the resumption of the wind. According to Météo-France, it was blowing at around 55 km / h in this western part of the Var. The prefect had therefore closed most of the massifs and prohibited navigation in the Gorges du Verdon.
