Specimens of these animals that cause irritating bites appear in the Basque Country and Galicia
the dreaded portuguese caravel has reached the Cantabrian coast. This animal, which looks like a jellyfish but is not, has forced the closure of a large number of beaches in northern Spain in recent days, according to the Atlas agency.
On the beaches of San Sebastián they have had to activate an action protocol to protect bathers. Starting at 7 in the morning, a boat travels the waters of La Concha Bay in search of these false jellyfish, which are unknown to some bathers.
When the team working on the subject identifies them, they are removed with the help of a net. Its tentacles can exceed 20 meters and his painful sting can cause serious effects. Organic pollution, the increase in water temperature and the decrease in predators are the main causes of their presence on our coasts.

On the Galician coast, specifically in Vigo and O Grove, they have also found these specimens in recent days, according to Europa Press. In Vigo, the lifeguards on O Vao beach reported the appearance of two specimens yesterday, and the town council asked the lifeguards to step up their attention to any new sighting. The Consistory recommends not touching them and returning them to the sea.
For its part, the O Grove Emergency Service also received an alert of the presence of one of these animals on the Area Grande beach.
