Billions of cyberattacks are committed against Russian facilities every year, according to the annual report of the interim committee of the Federation Council for the protection of state sovereignty and prevention of interference in the internal affairs of Russia, reports TASS. At the same time, the document indicates that 45% of these cyber attacks originate from the United States.

“In relation to the Russian Federation, cyberattacks aimed at the most important objects for the state are carried out constantly and intensively, while their number is measured in billions a year, and the bulk (45% or more) comes from the United States,” the report says.

The Federation Council commission believes that IT technologies are becoming one of the main instruments of external influence. Information vulnerability “leads to serious risks for sovereignty, national economy, scientific, technological and social development”: as an example, the document indicates the use of a virus like Stuxnet to disrupt the Iranian nuclear program.

At the end of September, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev in an interview with RT TV channel said that during the elections in Russia, a huge number of cyber attacks were committed on the servers of the CEC, about 50% of which originated from the United States.
