The MaratónDog Association, sponsored by Dingonatura and with the collaboration of the Provincial Council of León, has launched the fifth edition of ‘Transhumant Adventure‘, the environmental project with the aim of value transhumance between young people and the fundamental role that the dog plays with the shepherds and the flocks. The project, which has a group of 30 children who have overcome cancer, is taking place in La Cueta de Babia, the highest town in the province of León.

An expedition to bring transhumance closer to the youngest

Led by Manuel Calvo, ‘Aventura Transhumante’ has in this edition the participation of 30 teenagers who have overcome cancer and who have been selected as a way of recognizing the courage and effort that each one of them has shown in the long process they have faced to overcome the disease. The group will experience first-hand the culture of transhumance, so important in these remote places that jealously guard some extraordinary natural environments and in which they continue to be maintained ancient traditions where nature has a great role.

In addition, with the aim of learning about everything that involves our culture, during this edition, the participants will have the opportunity to carry out all kinds of activities related to the wool production processes. The group will carry out sports activities and tasks related to the environment of the transhumant culture, ranging from shearing to hat weaving, going through wool washing, carding, spinning or dyeing, learning to weave in the oldest.

‘Transhumant Adventure’: raising awareness about environmental conservation

With the Adventure, adolescents are not only approached to this type of grazing, very important for the maintenance of cultural customs: it is also valued how to enjoy the biodiversity of the rural world in the most ecological and beneficial way possible through activities without polluting effects. With ‘Aventura Transhumante’ the importance of the Spanish autochthonous fauna is shown, helping to maintain ecosystems with tasks that prevent fires; promote the conservation of natural spaces and the proliferation of wild fauna; and allow the opening of passageways for wildlife and the soil fertilization.

Along with all this, ‘Aventura Transhumante’ promotes the protection and dissemination of this cultural richness, part of our roots, confirming once again that the dog, as well as a companion animal, is a myth that is still alive today. This adventure is synonymous with solidarity, improvement, integration and coexistence with nature, respect and love for animals.

Through activities around the culture of transhumance and based on the values of respect and defense of the animal world, love for dogs and the need for responsible animal ownership, which are the basic pillars that guide the activity of the MaratónDog Association and Dingonatura, we carry out ‘Aventura Transhumante’: the fifth edition of an exciting project that provides the youngest with the wealth of an exciting world that we must maintain”, pointed out Manuel Calvo, president of MaratónDog and director of ‘Aventura Transhumante’.
