Cian Uijtdebroeks, the talented 20-year-old Belgian cyclist, recognizes that time trialing is an area in which he needs to improve. During his last race with BORA-hansgrohe, he expressed concerns about the team’s equipment in this discipline. Now, with Visma – Lease a Bike, they are focused on addressing this weakness to compete successfully in the Grand Tours.

Visma – Lease a Bike coach Mathieu Heijboer shared his perspective at MOVE Amsterdam, highlighting the critical importance of performing well in stopwatch trials. With truly notable names such as Tadej Pogacar, Primoz Roglic, Jonas Vingegaard and Remco Evenepoel dominating this discipline, improving time trials becomes a key objective for Uijtdebroeks.

Despite excelling in climbing and consistency, Uijtdebroeks has not achieved outstanding time trial performance. In the last time trial of the Vuelta a España, he lost more than 2 minutes to Remco Evenepoel over 25.8 kilometers. Heijboer recognizes that improving these types of tests takes time and is a process that involves adjusting position, acquiring consistency and training constantly.

“He can certainly do better, much better than he has done so far, but we should not expect it to be solved with a single aerodynamic test. That really takes time. “It’s a fun job, I’m looking forward to it,” Heijboer said. With the support of Visma – Lease a Bike, Uijtdebroeks has the opportunity to develop his time trial skills and compete at the highest level in the demanding world of professional cycling.
