The Figueres Comic Festival celebrates its 15th anniversary with “public success” and a sense of pre-pandemic

The Figueres Comic Festival has closed its 15th edition with a successful audience and the feeling of having “recovered where they left off in 2019”. The co-director of the event, Xavier Valentí, points out that after two years marked by restrictions due to the pandemic, in 2022 they have been able to celebrate a festival “as before” with full capacity. Valentí did not want to highlight any of the shows, but highlighted that many were filled, although he acknowledged that those who had media artists were the ones who aroused the most interest among the audience. It is worth noting, however, that some, such as ‘Leaving the Bunker’, ‘Micro Humor’ and ‘Julien Cottreau’ have been among the busiest.

However, the Comic Festival hopes that this year’s public success will serve as a benchmark for future editions. “Like all theatrical activities, we have to reinvent ourselves, but the will of the organization, of the city and of the public, the will is to continue with a contest that concentrates so many people and that is a call for this first vocational period of Easter in Catalonia “, says Valentí.

The Comic closes this Sunday with the performance of the popular Leo Bassi at the Cate. However, artists as popular as Julien Cottreau or the members of the Catalunya Ràdio El Búnquer program will have passed through Figueres. In fact, the show by Peyu, Neus Rossell and Jair Domínguez is one of the ones that sold out.

Humor de Micro, which brought together popular voices such as Magí Garcia and Manel Vidal de la Sotana, the comedian Judit Martín and Neus Rossell herself, brought together around 900 people at the Teatre Jardí in Figueres. “All the proposals have been concurrent. There was a desire to do things and Easter has been invited,” said the co-director of the Comic Festival.

More desire for humor

For Valentí it has been “very important” to have celebrated the festival “with more humor” than the rest. “It has been a year to celebrate and to carry out new editions with great optimism. There was a lot of desire among the people, after two years complicated by the pandemic,” he concluded.
