The Golden Bear at the Berlinale as the best feature film in 2022 was awarded to Spanish director Carla Simon’s Alcarraz. The results of the 72nd International Film Festival were summed up on Wednesday evening, February 16.

The premiere of the film “Alcarraz” was held at the Berlinale. The main roles were played by Jordi Puyol Dolset, Anna Otin and Xenia Roset. The film is about several generations of the same family in the Catalan town of Alcarraz. Family members react differently to the news that all the peach trees on their land are going to be cut down for the installation of solar panels.

18 films from 15 countries participated in the main competition of this season. “Silver Bear” went to the film “Writer’s Film” by South Korean director Hong Sang-soo.

The Silver Bear for Best Screenplay was awarded to Laila Stieler for “Rabye Kurnaz vs. George W. Bush” by German director Andreas Dresen. The main role in the film was played by Meltem Kaptan, and she was awarded the Silver Bear at the Berlinale as the best leading actor.

“Golden Bear” in the program of short films (this is not the main competition, but still very prestigious) was awarded to the film “Trap” by Russian director Anastasia Weber.

Berlinale – the third largest festival in Europe

The Berlinale International Film Festival – the third largest in Europe after Cannes and Venice – takes place in Berlin from 10 to 20 February. Three years ago, Italian Carlo Shatrian became its artistic director, and Mariette Rissenbeek from the Netherlands became its executive director.

The best films of the current Berlin Film Festival were selected by an international jury. It was headed by Indian-born American director and screenwriter M. Night Shyamalan, who directed The Sixth Sense with Bruce Willis, Signs with Mel Gibson and Joaquin Phoenix, Split and several others.

Berlinale 2021 Winning Film Not Shown in Russia

In 2021, the comedy “Unlucky Fuck, or Crazy Porn” by the Romanian director Radu Jude received the Golden Bear prize. The Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation refused to issue a distribution certificate to this film, believing that it contained materials promoting pornography.
