The week begins for moviegoers with tickets to commercial theaters at 3.5 euros, less than half the usual price. It is the promotional claim of the Film Festival, which between Monday and Thursday will take place throughout Spain, with the participation of 2,932 screens.
In Bizkaia, the theaters adhered to this ticket reduction are Cinesa Max Ocio, Yelmo Megapark, Multicines 7, Cinesa Zubiarte, Golem Alhóndiga, Yelmo Artea and Dock Ballonti. In Alava, the Gorbeia and Yelmo Boulevard cinemas participate in this annual festival.
Changes in cultural habits and the crisis that theaters are going through, with viewer attendance rates 40% lower than the annual averages prior to the pandemic, force theaters to revalue viewing films in their natural format, the big screen. Entrepreneurs in the sector point out that one of the main problems they are encountering in the face of the recovery of pre-pandemic figures is “the reduction in the time that elapses from when a film is released in theaters until it is released in the next window, either physical or online. If before the pandemic, the usual practice was to respect a minimum of 112 days from the theatrical release to the next window, in 94% of the cases analyzed in 2022 the releases that do not meet that time have multiplied by more six.
“They are the most important films of the year, in terms of collection and viewers, the ones that are reducing their times between theaters and platforms the most, which prevents us from optimally exploiting the films,” these sources say.
