More than 13,000 girls and boys between the ages of 6 and 11 will enjoy the projection of ‘Boonie Bears: Abentura Historiaurrean’ on the giant screen of the Velodrome, an animated film that links cinema and science in an activity co-organized by the San Sebastian Festival, the Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC) and the Basque Film Library.

On this occasion, the Ikastetxeak Belodromoan sessions, which will take place in the morning, on Friday 22 September and from Monday 25 to Friday 29 included, will allow us to travel to prehistory and learn more about volcanoes with the aim of transmitting a positive image. of science to schoolchildren in the territory, in addition to showing the strong link between the city and scientific research.

Directed by Leon Ding, the film tells the story of a group of animals trapped in the past. The screening of the film, dubbed into Basque, will be accompanied by an original and fun presentation about volcanoes, by Janire Prudencio, a volcanologist from the University of Granada, who has worked on more than 20 active volcanoes, from Japan. to Antarctica and in the last eruptions of Iceland and the island of La Palma. She will be in charge of sharing her experiences between volcanoes with the children’s audience at the velodrome.

Since 2019, the school film sessions that are scheduled at the San Sebastian Festival have the collaboration of the DIPC and the Basque Film Library. Under the slogan ‘City of Cinema, City of Science’, this collaboration takes place in a context that combines the educational experience with the fun of an audience that, for example, last year vibrated with the presence of the robot Pepper that animated the sessions about robotics.

On the other hand, the San Sebastian Festival will present a selection of six titles aimed at family audiences in its 71st edition. During the first weekend and the second Saturday of the event, the Príncipe cinemas will host the screenings of the ‘Children’s Films’ section, which include five animated films and one live-action film. All of them can be seen dubbed into Basque thanks to the collaboration of Zineuskadi within the framework of the Zinema Euskaraz programme: ‘Ainbo: Amazoniako gerraria’; ‘Barraskiloa eta balea eta itsasoko beste ipuin batzuk’; ‘Doraemon Movie: Nobitaren dinosaur berria’; ‘Gabi, 8 urtetik 13 urtera’; ‘Ilargirantz’; and ‘Superhero family’.
