Female Photographer Jayanthi: It’s common for women to be passionate about and achieve in photography. But it is a big struggle to achieve in cinema.

When I was a member of the ‘South Indian Film Bar Women’s Association’, we used to meet many directors, share our problems and ask for opportunities.

We asked director Mishkin the same. Mishkin was watching me take the photo.

While talking, he said, ‘Madam, you are the still photographer for my next film’.

I thought he was just talking about something. He doesn’t even have a mobile number. But, three months later someone caught hold of me and spoke to me.

That’s how I got an opportunity in Psycho. In my very first film, there was great ‘excitement’ that even the role model BC Sriram was going to ‘work’.

When the heroines’ audition took place, when Mishkin showed the pictures I had taken to Sriram, he said, ‘It’s very good… who took it; He said that they have taken correcta… I want to see them.

Then Shriram also taught me a lot about how I should work. I also shouted that the ‘lighting’ was done somewhat well.

As a woman there were many challenges in this field. There was a lot of ‘Acceptants Problem’. It’s a bit difficult to give women a chance in the field right now.

Now not as much as before; Little has changed. Cannot eat on time; Can’t go home.

When my daughter was young, an outdoor program came to a Pongal mother. The husband also had to come.

So she was alone at home. Her grandparents were next to her. Asking them to give Pongal Vechu, she did the pooja herself. I have missed many festivals and special occasions like this.

It is not easy for women to enter this field and become successful. Don’t miss any opportunity. ‘Observation’ is very important in this ‘field’. Take in everything!
