FRANCE – Wednesday October 25, the Finance Committee voted for the temporary nationalization of part of the Atos group. While Thierry Breton talks endlessly on public service television sets about the possible temporary suspension of the X-Twitter network from next February, Parliament will decide on the temporary nationalization of the company he managed from 2009 to 2019.

The value of Atos plunges on the stock market and “the group is in full dismantling”, confirmed MP Philippe Brun (PS) to the Finance Committee. The president of the LR group, Olivier Marleix, joined forces with him to propose an amendment in favor of the temporary nationalization of certain activities of the company. The amendment in question was adopted and introduced into the finance bill for 2024. It will then have to be voted on in the National Assembly, the government having already made it clear that it was not in favor of it.

The temporary nationalization of certain strategic assets of Atos

The management of software for emergency services, nuclear power plants, Linky meters, the customs portal, the army security telephone, the Scorpion program, quantum supercomputers… so many activities, monopolies of the national flagship, which risk to be dismantled or sold to the highest bidder, in France or abroad.

“It is inconceivable that our supercomputers will go under foreign flag, we must be aware of this”alerted Philippe Brun, before proposing an amendment to proceed with a takeover by the State of certain strategic assets of the Atos group to the tune of 390 million euros.

MP Marleix came to support the vote by recalling that “in the France 2030 strategy, the State will invest more than a billion on quantum computing strategies and cannot afford to lose its main partner”. And to deplore: “Atos was a company that was valued at almost 8 billion 3 years ago, which today is only valued at around 500 million euros, which shows the tragedy of this company.” Then the RN bench finished driving the point home by placing responsibility for this bankruptcy on its former president and CEO, Thierry Breton.

“Another case of plundering of our industrial genius, undoubtedly not unrelated to the disastrous management of Thierry Breton”

“The RN warns of this umpteenth case of plundering of our industrial genius which is undoubtedly not unrelated to the disastrous management of Thierry Breton”, denounced MP Alexandre Sabatou, while noting that “the Macron government had the good idea of entrusting him with the portfolio of European commissioner in charge of strategic European industries”.

It must be said that the person concerned is somewhat accustomed to this fact. The companies he managed ended up being dismantled, namely Thomson and France Télécom. And maybe Atos tomorrow.
