At night, the smoke turned towards Plovdiv, but no harmful concentrations were recorded in the air
The flames near Tsalapitsa are still raging, but the fire has not grown and has not left the perimeter of the landfill. This was reported to “24 Chasa” by the head of the “Firefighting and rescue activity” sector in the Plovdiv fire department. inspector Dimitar Brishimov.
The fire broke out yesterday around 4:30 pm and covered an area of about 15 decares. A large black cloud quickly billowed over the dump and worried those living in the area. The burning is fiery – on the surface, not in depth. On site, firefighters and volunteers fought the spread.
The fire department indicated that the perimeter of the fire was limited with the help of bulldozers around 10 p.m. last night. “We have gathered engineering equipment, which at 8 a.m. starts ringing – covering the fire with earth,” explained ch. Inspector Brishimov.
During the night, the smoke, which was moving towards Stamboliyski, changed its direction and turned towards Plovdiv. According to the Fire and Rescue Chief, this is normal in the morning and as the day progresses the direction will change again. No harmful concentrations were detected during the last air measurement. However, parts of the city are heavily smoky, which worries citizens.
“By the end of the day, if one of the machines doesn’t fail, I think we’ll make it,” the head is hopeful. inspector Dimitar Brishimov.
