Afghanistan got a chance to play a Test against New Zealand for the first time. But torrential rains are increasing their wait. The first day of the only Test at the neutral venue Greater Noida was drenched in rain today on Monday.

The first day in the belly of rain sport

Due to the rain, it was not possible to roll on the playing field, even tossing was not possible. After waiting from morning to 4.5 pm, the umpires declared the day’s play abandoned.

The second day’s play will start tomorrow half an hour earlier due to rain on the first day. In that case, the remaining four days will be played with 98 overs. The toss will be at 9 am.

However, the weather forecast predicts rain tomorrow as well. Of course not too much. In that case, it is expected that there may be some games on the second day.

Afghanistan, who got Test status in 2018, have previously faced New Zealand five times in ICC events in ODIs and T20Is combined. This is the first Test match. Besides, they have not got the chance to play Tests against England, Australia, Pakistan and South Africa yet.

Afghans have won 3 of the 9 Tests played so far. They lost Bangladesh, Ireland and Zimbabwe.
