Launched on December 25, 2021, the James-Webb Space Telescope (JWST) has delivered its first images. In addition to their beauty, the pictures highlight the unprecedented performance of JWST, compared to those of its predecessors, Hubble and Spitzer. The telescope, built by NASA, the European Space Agency (ESA) and their Canadian counterpart (CSA), is the result of a three-decade-long adventure.

The telescope is also able to split light into different wavelengths. In addition to exploring the stars, the spectra produced by JWST make it possible to study the chemical elements that emitted or filtered these rays.
