Iraqi Airways Launches First Flight to Tunisia
The Iraqi Ministry of Transport announced the inaugural flight of Iraqi Airways to Tunisia, operating on an Airbus 220 aircraft. The announcement came in a statement issued by the ministry.
“The first flight took off yesterday, and in the coming days, we will witness other scheduled flights to Tunisia based on previous discussions between the Iraqi Minister of Transport and his Tunisian counterpart,” the statement read.
According to Jawhara website, Tunisia is among the new tourist destinations being added to Iraqi Airways’ route network, alongside Beijing and Kuala Lumpur.
The Iraqi Ministry of Transport spokesperson, Maitham Al-Safi, elaborated on the airline’s recent expansion plans. He mentioned the opening of routes to Beijing, Guangzhou, and Kuala Lumpur, as well as other significant destinations in the region and beyond. The airline also transported Iraqi travelers to Europe during joint operations and has plans to resume flights in the coming months.
Al-Safi further highlighted the ministry’s efforts to lift the European ban on Iraqi Airways, stating that 11 idle planes have already been returned to service, with 12 more expected to return this year.
The spokesperson concluded by noting the airline’s impressive financial performance this year, with revenue increasing by 89% compared to the previous year.
