This morning, Saturday, the activities of the first Libyan International Pharmacy Conference, organized by the Ministry of Health of the Government of National Unity, under the slogan “Economics and Challenges of the Pharmaceutical Industry”, began, with the aim of enhancing cooperation and exchanging expertise in the field of pharmacy among those interested locally, regionally and internationally.
The conference will be attended by high-level ministers, officials and local experts, most notably Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health Mr. Ramadan Abu Janah, Minister of Economy and Trade Mr. Mohammed Al-Huwaij, Member of the Health Committee in the House of Representatives Mr. Ayman Seif Al-Nasr, Member of the Presidential Council Mr. Abdullah Al-Lafi, and international experts from Germany, Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
The conference, which will be held on July 6 and 7 in the capital, Tripoli, is scheduled to discuss a number of issues related to the development of the pharmaceutical sector, most notably: the opportunities available for localizing the pharmaceutical industry, local experiences in the pharmaceutical industry, the suitability of pharmaceutical economics for decision-makers, medical supply chains, registration of pharmaceutical products, application of “GS1” standards in the pharmaceutical supply chain, the European model for developing general pharmaceutical products, the Saudi experience in manufacturing oncology drugs, drug control in Libya from establishment to development, and the official mechanism for importing medicines through the Medical Supply Authority.
The conference also hosts dialogue sessions during which experts and decision-makers discuss several topics related to the challenges of local drug manufacturing.
