The first meeting of the working group on digital government was held in Azerbaijan

On December 18, 2024, the first meeting of the working group “Development of Digital Government” of the Commission on Business Environment and International Ratings of Azerbaijan, headed by the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, was held.

The meeting was held under the leadership of the head of the sector for economic policy and industry of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Vusala ShikhalievaDeputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport Samira MamedovaChairman of the Board of the Innovation and Digital Development Agency (IRIA) Inara Velieva and Deputy Chairman of the Board of IRIA Shahina Aliyeva.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Science and Education, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population, the executive power of the city of Baku and a number of other government agencies.

At the first meeting, issues related to identifying gaps in the digital government infrastructure, developing basic development strategies and specific action plans were discussed. In addition, views were exchanged on an action plan to significantly improve the ranking of Azerbaijan’s Electronic Government Development Index before the next assessment period.

Following the meeting, it was decided to prepare and submit for preliminary approval to the secretariat of the Commission on Business Environment and International Ratings a draft action plan for the indicator areas of the Azerbaijan E-Government Development Index.

It should be noted that the main goal of the newly created working group is to ensure the implementation of the action plan developed according to the relevant criteria to improve Azerbaijan’s position in the UN E-Government Development Index. The action plan will be implemented in coordination with relevant government agencies.

The working group will meet regularly to assess progress, discuss emerging issues and ensure the successful implementation of digital governance initiatives.
