The new Serbian Prime Minister Milos Vucevic said today that he was glad that his first official meeting in the new post was with the Serbian Patriarch Porfiri on the eve of the biggest Christian holiday, Easter, Tanjug reported, quoted by BTA.
“After a meaningful conversation, I asked His Holiness (Patriarch Porfiry) for his blessing to perform one of the most responsible functions in the state,” Vucevic wrote on his Instagram profile. He noted that the patriarch presented him with an icon of Saint Sava, “the father of Serbian spirituality, the first and greatest Serbian enlightener, founder of our church.”
The Serbian Prime Minister assessed that the Serbian Orthodox Church is one of the most important institutions for the Serbian people.
Today, Vucevic sent a greeting to Patriarch Porfiry, the clergy and monastics, as well as the Orthodox believers who celebrate Easter according to the Julian calendar.
“On behalf of the government of the Republic of Serbia and on my own behalf, I congratulate you – the clergy, the monastics and all believers on Easter, the Resurrection of the Son of God,” Vucevic wrote, as quoted by the government press service.
