Baghdad Municipality confirmed, on Monday, that two Chinese companies are competing for the new Sadr City project, noting that the first phase of the project includes the construction of 11,000 housing units.
The Secretariat’s spokesman, Mohammed Al-Rubaie, told the (INA): “The committee concerned with the issue of forming cities is concerned with the issue of the new Sadr City,” stressing that “work is underway to update the first part of the new Sadr City, which is the establishment of 11,000 housing units on an area of ​​approximately 5,000 dunams.”
He added, “Work is ongoing to update the database and specialized approvals, before launching it as an investment opportunity or as a contracting opportunity for companies.”
He pointed out that “the number of Chinese companies that applied for the new Sadr City project is 5 companies out of a total of 24 companies, as a committee was formed in the Baghdad Municipality to look into the technical details, schedules and numbers, and 3 companies withdrew and two Chinese companies remained,” noting that “we are waiting for the final approval from the Prime Minister’s Office to choose the appropriate company.”
