The Gerapetritis committee got rid of the accident investigation within a month and a half. What does the president of the drivers answer and what are the next steps.

It only took a month and a half for the Committee of Experts appointed by Giorgos Gerapetritis to carry out the investigation and draw up a relevant conclusion on the tragedy that claimed the lives of at least 57 people.

The committee, with a general statement, hastens to inform that it does not deal with attribution or apportionment of responsibilities and that it proposes a set of measures for the “safe, orderly and efficient operation of railway transport in Greece”. Nevertheless, he speaks of “systemic problems and malfunctions” that emerge from the research.

Reacting to the announcement, the president of the train drivers, Kostas Genidounias, complains that he was not called (neither as a person, nor as a union) to testify before the specific committee, adding that all they were asked to do was to testify the court documents they had sent.

In detail: Awaiting with interest the publication of the finding, to state that I was not called to testify (either as a person – or to testify as an Association) – although I considered it reasonable – to the commission appointed by the government to investigate the accident. All that was asked of us was to give the exodus as we did.
