The first story of Velipada’s book was not done because Mohanlal fans didn’t like it: Lal Jose
In 2017, the book Velipadin directed by Lal Jose starring Mohanlal was released. The film received mixed responses and was not a success at the theatres.
Lal Jose talks about the feedback he received for Velipad’s book and his experiences with Mohanlal when he worked as an assistant director earlier.
Lal Jose said these things in an interview given to YouTube channel 1000 Arrows as part of the promotion of his latest film Solomon’s Bees.
Lal Jose says that there is something unlucky between the two of them and none of the planned films have happened.
‘Laletan is very friendly, Laletan used to come to play company with the assistant director. But it took 19 years to make a film with him, we had planned many films together but none of them got made.
I was the first to direct Shikar. But that too did not happen due to some reasons. When the first story of the revelation was told to Lalettan, he liked it. But it didn’t happen because fans said that the eldest son would not like Laleton’s role. And Benny had the character of a priest in his hand, Laletan did not play a role like that and that’s how we get to the book of revelation that we see now. I think the story of the Book of Revelation is international but I failed in its execution,’ says Lal Jose.
Lal Jose adds that he was scared when Velipada’s book failed and neither Mohanlal nor Mammootty should feel like they have wasted their time with a film.
‘There was a gap of ten years after fighting with Mammooka. There was also a lot of trouble with the revelation work. If there is a character that they can do, I will definitely run to them, and I still think I have that space with them,’ says Lal Jose.
