The flagship Galaxy exclusively for Snapdragon starting next year • HWzone

A statement from Qualcomm’s representatives appears to confirm that the future Galaxy S23 family devices will be powered by the successor to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 worldwide, with no alternative Exynos variants.

There are still a little more than five months left until this year ends, but in many places we are already planning for the year 2023 – when it seems that the same is true for Samsung and Qualcomm, which are expected to tighten the relationship between them even more and bring about a possible international alignment of all the flagship models of the series -Galaxy S

In recent years, anyone who has had any interest in Samsung’s flagship smartphone family has probably been exposed to the comparisons that exist between the device versions powered by Samsung’s self-developed and manufactured Exynos chips and the versions powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chips, when the goal behind such a move was to ensure a supply chain that could handle With the expected demand for millions of units at the same time as part of an extensive international launch, as well as optimal matching of technologies and frequencies of wireless cellular communication in the various countries at the level of the modems built into the chips.

Samsung itself made sure to minimize the duality in their devices and made sure to treat them as a single product in all marketing materials, but in reality various tests demonstrated significant differences in the capabilities of the models based on Samsung chips compared to the capabilities of the models based on Qualcomm chips, with a difference reaching tens of percent in some years in performance and operational efficiency – usually with an advantage for the Snapdragon family that made them desirable and relevant even in markets that formally received the Exynos models.

Now, after rumors and preliminary assessments on the subject, Qualcomm and Samsung announce the strengthening of their relationship with the signing of a renewal of the strategic cooperation contract between them for seven more years – within the framework of which we receive confirmation that already this year within the Galaxy S22 family of devices over 75 percent of all units contain Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chips in the content (evidence of this also exists in Israel, which received Snapdragon versions in an official launch after many years in which the Exynos models were the ones that landed on the local landscape), and this number will swell even more starting next year.

Samsung, according to the reports, is no longer convinced of the ability of its chip division to provide adequate technological competition to Qualcomm’s top chips, and therefore prefers to focus on using them as part of its future flagship products – all the more so in light of a significant slowdown in demand for hardware products in general and smart devices in particular. Which will probably lead to a reduction in production and sales volumes and will help a single supplier deal with the required quantity without the need for “backup”.

Is this a blessing for Galaxy fans of all kinds, who will no longer need in-depth technical comparisons to make sure they get the most successful and efficient configuration of the device they are purchasing with the best of their money – or maybe the lack of competitiveness will only hurt Samsung and the consumers themselves?
