The Independent Union of Airline Cabin Crew (Sitcpla) denounced this Tuesday, through the law firm Navas & Cousinto Spain before the European Comission (EC) “for the repeated discrimination to female flight crew members (TCP)”.

According to the union, the TCP group in Spain, of which more than 75% (8,000) are women, is excluded from the royal decree of 1986, which applies reductions in minimum years of contributions to access the retirement with 100% of the rightswhich all other aeronautical professionals (pilots, aerial photographers or flight mechanics, among others) can benefit from.

This occurs despite the fact that, since the air navigation lawfrom 1960, the TCPs are part of the crew and they are affected by all the elements that make up work hardship such as pressure differences, continuous changes in schedule and temperatures or musculoskeletal injuries, Sitcpla explained in a statement.

While prestigious universities around the world declare the most vulnerable female crew member to suffer oncological diseases, “five prime ministers of Spain, plus seven socialist and five popular labor ministers have looked the other way,” the union lamented. In other countries, such as Franceafter 25 years of practicing the TCP profession, you access the 100% pension of the corresponding amount, the union organization has added.

For this reason, Sitcpla has decided to file a complaint within the European Union (EU) and in the form of petitionbefore parliament, “the marginalization to the TCPs to be included immediately in the RD of 1986, as provided for in the norm itself.” For the union, the EU legislation is clear and categorical in this sense and “any hint of direct or indirect discrimination based on sex must be expelled from the legal systems of its member states.”
