On the other hand, covid-19 and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) infection tends to stabilize in Primary Care, although they remain still on the rise in the hospital field, in the group of over 80 years of age for covid-19 and under one year of age in the case of RSV.

This closing week of 2023, the SARS-Cov-2 positivity drops to 10.8% compared to 15.4% the previous week and the VRS also drops four points to 10.3%.

The incidence of covid in Primary Care presents fluctuations and the highest rates are observed in adults 65 years of age or older. The hospitalization rate in the last week of the year is 3.5 cases per hundred thousand, compared to 2.4 cases seven days before, and increasing since the last five weeks.

RSV infection in Primary Care shows a decrease although it continues to increase in hospitals, 5.2 cases admitted per 100,000 inhabitants (4.3 the previous week).

increase in children

In the next two weeks, after the Three Wise Men festival and the return to school, doctors expect an increase in the transmission of flu by children, especially those under 5 years of age, since suffer “between 4 and 5 times more” than adults. In addition, children have “more concentration of viruses” in their bodies and in them, the viruses are “more persistent” than in adults, reports Servimedia

“When the children return to school after the Christmas holidays, there will be two or three weeks that the vertical will continue upwards in the case of the flu,” says Antonio Zapatero, former president of the Spanish Society of Internal Medicine (SEMI). ) and head of the Internal Medicine Service at the Fuenlabrada University Hospital in Madrid.
